ABOUT COCOON
A cocoon is a place of transformation, spun from silk. It can be soft or hard, solid or web-like, a multitude of colours, even see-through. Whilst some think of cocoons as a resting place, there’s not much resting going on inside. The old is broken down into imaginal cells, which are undifferentiated, meaning they can become any type of cell conceivable, to create the new. Those that spin cocoons must eventually break from them, to complete their transformation.
Cocoon is a nature based support service for young men who live with a Disability or in Out-of-home care.
We create a safe container for each young man to access support in natural environments. Harnessing the power of outdoor recreation activities and nature connection modalities, we engage and challenge him in a healthy and fun way. We practice a male-to-male coaching and mentoring model, which offers an opportunity to work with a role model, often unlike any other relationship in his life.
Through this lens, once trust is established, it allows him access to deeper levels of connection with himself, his community and his local environment. This often leads to better outcomes for him and those around him.

GROUP
SUPPORT

ELEMENTS
Elements is a multi-day, group based Adventure Therapy and Nature Connection program.
Elements is designed to build confidence, independence, communication skills, and resilience, explored through the power of connection with the natural world, and playing in it.
Over the program, participants will explore the core elements of Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Aether/Space, Metal and Wood.
A fundamental thread weaving through the programme is peer-to-peer circle work, guided by a Psychotherapist & Behaviour Support Practitioner. Participants will be offered opportunities to be seen and heard by their peers, reflecting on their experience.

SUNDAY CLUB
Sunday Club is a group support for young men, which runs on, you guessed it, Sundays, in locations around NNSW & SEQLD.
Each week has a different flavour with new activities and locations, however, the core themes remain the same: nature connection, adventure based activities, friendship and skill development.
Sunday Club is for young men aged 16-25.

INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT
1:1 SUPPORT
1:1 support is an integral part of Cocoon's support model.
A typical session could look like a bike ride in the forest, kayaking amongst mangroves, building a primitive shelter in the woods or learning how to make fire by friction, using native plants.
We know that nature-based environments have an organically therapeutic effect on the human nervous system. By introducing physical activities which are fun and challenging, we harness the beneficial effects of exercise, the development of motor function and learning of new skills.
In addition, we blend client-led coaching and mentoring in a trauma-informed and person-centred way, whilst also offering a lens of transpersonal and eco-centric ideas. This is what sets Cocoon apart from most.

NATURE CONNECTION RESPITE
Cocoon facilitates immersive respite experiences, diving deeper into the modality of nature connection coaching and mentoring.
These experiences often involve camping or accommodation in a place of natural beauty, and offer the chance to break the circuits of day-to-day life.
This is not a holiday, although it can be relaxing; these trips focus on exposure to new places and experiences, building resilience and capacity away from home. Respite can often be a source of rest for primary carers and a break for usual supports.
